Togo Develops Project Activities

In recent months, Africhol developed surveillance activities of severe diarrhea and cholera in Togo. In December 2011, five cases of severe diarrhea—of which one was confirmed to be associated with cholera—were reported in the area of enhanced surveillance, consisting of five districts in the Lomé region and two districts in the Maritime region.

Outside the zone of enhanced surveillance, in the district of Zio, 28 cases of diarrhea were reported, none of which tested positive for cholera.

Priorities for coming months include active surveillance of cholera cases, data entry in the Africhol database, and coordination of project activities.
