Kenya: Cholera response in Wajir county (Photo story) (12 Apr 2016)
For more than a year, a lingering cholera outbreak has affected nearly half of all counties in Kenya. It has reached high-density refugee camps, slums and areas where access to safe water is problematic. Cholera spreads via contaminated food and water. It can be fatal if untreated, but the treatment with oral rehydration salts is simple and effective. The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) supports UNICEF’s ongoing cholera response activities in Wajir, in the arid East of the country, which has been particularly affected.
